In the late 90’s, while editor-in-chief of vaguepolitix.com (a Web site originally hosted by PBS Online) Lynn Phillips began to write for nerve.com under the pen name, “Maggie Cutler.” The pseudonym freed Phillips from the non-profit educational network’s fetish for respectability, and freedom from corporate decorum quickly became addictive. “Maggie Cutler” became her byline for several years. She wrote under both names at The Nation and at Newsweek International, but after awhile carrying around more than one identity seemed excessive, and Maggie Cutler was retired with honors.
